Banana Hack – How to NEVER waste a banana again
Bananas are one of my favorite fruits, but I’m actually quite picky about eating them. I like them yellow but more to the green side. As soon as they start getting brown spots and smell like a real banana, I’m out! They start growing in my mouth, and they are impossible to carry anywhere without getting smashed. Don’t we all remember finding a 4 day old banana in the bottom of our school bag???
Since I’m using bananas as a base in almost ALL of my smoothies, I thought I would share my favorite tip. It’s the easiest ever, but it has saved me from either throwing out over ripe bananas or not having one handy when needed for a smoothie etc.
I always buy organic bananas, and I like to buy a lot at the same time. I then eat of them for as long, as they are still hard and greenish. As soon as they get too ripe, I let them lay out until they are over ripe and soft.
Then it’s time to share my trick. When over ripe, I simply peel my bananas, put them in an air tight container and put them in the freezer! Then I can have bananas in my smoothies anytime I want or make a bowl of banana ice cream (I will share my recipe, promise!). Over ripe bananas are perfect for smoothies due to:
- Sweeter taste
- More creamy consistency
- Nice to add cold/freezing banans to your smoothie, keeps it cold without adding ice-cubes.
Another way to use over ripe bananas is banana bread! Currently perfecting the recipe but stay tuned;)!
