Birthday Leftovers and Stuff – All about that balance

I’ve met people, I only know from the gym, grabbing a slice of pizza (a whole one, who am I kidding) on my way home from a club, early hours in the morning. If recognized, the first remark would be “I didn’t think you ate stuff like this?!”. This is why I want to share my health philosophy in general, and a very recent example of that philosophy executed in my daily life.
I BELIEVE IN BALANCE, meaning that I like a bit of everything. Sometimes I get a bit too much of something, and then I need some of the opposite in order to balance my sh*t out. This is the reality in all aspects of my life. I always try to fit in some quiet Yin Yoga in my workout routine, because I need to balance my body, from some otherwise pretty high intensity workouts. If I feel tired after too many late nights with wine and dancing, then green juices and bed before 10 is the way to go for a while:) I work 3-4 different jobs (AND I LOVE IT), which means I have a lot of balls in the air. Hectic days filled with social engagement, travel and creativity, creates a need in me for some real downtime. In order to rebalance my head, I like reading silly chick lit, easy to read and digest. It all ends well and I go to bed a happy camper. We’re all different, and balance isn’t necessarily an equal amount of each opposite, but the feeling I have when I get the right composition.
When celebrating my birthday for my girls, I also want some balance in the menu. Instead of throwing a party, I’ve started the tradition of hosting a “Hangover Brunch” instead. This years theme has been used before, and is more or less the same every year. I invite my friends to brunch on a Sunday at 11ish, and the theme is usually “Walk of shame”. This means that they are aloud to show up, wearing WHATEVER they wore the night before, make-up and all. Just another way of saying NO dress code, and pajamas with stains from Ben & Jerry’s is very welcome as well. I provide everything they need to get their sunday going. If they only want to stay for a coffee before getting back to some exam, or if they need a nap in my bed in order to function as a human being, it’s all good.
BALANCED DIET:

  • Salad with spinach, red pepper and pumpkin seeds
  • Cucmber and carrot sticks
  • Homemade hummus
  • Pesto (bought, could have made it myself, but I didn’t have the time sorry #notsorry)
  • Bread sticks (bought, same story as above)
  • GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES (with a panini maker and all)
  • CUPCAKES (made by my former roommate Charlotte #tradition)
  • GIANT MARSHMELLOWS
  • Sushi (came later with my Sushi Pusher)
  • Coffee
  • Sparkling water
  • Lemon and blueberry infused water (fancy description for water with slices of lemon and blueberries)

So I’ve highlighted the things I probably ate most of that day haha… There was something for any taste and any level of hangover, even had some recovery beers in the fridge if needed.  We where around 20 people, spread out during the day. Some girls came later and some just stuck around the entire afternoon. The weather was REALLY good, so at the end of the afternoon, we went for a walk and just lay in the grass at a park.
The best day ever, great company and lots of food. I felt really balanced afterwards, but no cupcakes left, so I was stuck with the healthy leftovers.
TIP: Ketchup in your grilled cheese is underrated
