CranioSacral Therapy – How I’m recovering from my knee injury

It’s been 48 days and 3 hours, since my last run(I AM counting)! I’ve had trouble with my right knee for a few years, but nothing too serious. My knee obviously thought otherwise, and decided that I should start taking more care of it, NOW! So things went a bit out of place during a run, and suddenly my right knee wasn’t cooperating with me at all. It swelled up to double size (not hot!), and bending it was not an option. I tried to keep my head up, and thought it just needed time. After 4 days of limping and a lot of pain, I had to call in some help! I went to my physiotherapist, and she did what I would call magic, and she would call it CranioSacral Therapy. I could suddenly walk more like a normal person, and the knee didn’t feel as out of place as it had before. Together we started working on my left hip and right ankle, since they were apparently partly to blame. As soon as the pain went away (took a while and some serious painkillers), she gave me a recovery program, that I’ve been doing for a few weeks.
Before I geek all out, and explain what this CranioSacral Therapy is, I want to let you know that my FAB physiotherapist, has given me a discount code to all you readers. You will get 50% on all treatments in July:)

WHAT IS THIS CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY THINGY??
CranioSacral therapy originates from an osteopathic method called CranioSacral Osteopathy first described and founded by the American osteopath William G. Sutherland. Later on, the American osteopath and doctor Dr. John Upledger developed the CranioSacral therapy as an independent therapeutic treatment.
The treatment involves gentle non-invasive techniques that release tensions and restrictions with the aim of improving the functioning of the central nervous system and the body?s inherent ability to heal itself.
The name CranioSacral originates from the words Cranio (cranium) and Sacral (sacrum). The cranium and the sacrum are connected through the outermost membrane, dura mater, which surrounds the central nervous system, the brain and the spinal cord and protects the cerebrospinal fluid. Together the cranium, the sacrum and dura mater form the CranioSacral system. CranioSacral therapy is based on a rhythm that allegedly occurs due to the production and resorption of the cerebrospinal fluid. This pulsation creates constant small movements in the sacrum and the cranium and places great demand on the connective tissue in and around the CranioSacral system.
The CranioSacral system can affect and be affected by other systems in the body, just as restrictions and tensions in the CranioSacral system may lead to various symptoms. The aim of the treatment is therefore to optimize the elasticity of the connective tissue and optimize the CranioSacral rhythm without stressing the body.
Cases where CranioSacral therapy is helpful:

  • Headaches, migraines
  • Whiplash and other traumas related to car accident
  • Muscle tension
  • Neck and back pain
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Respiratory problems
  • Sleeping problems
  • Pelvic pain, pelvic instability, menstrual pain
  • Tinnitus, dizziness and balance disorder
  • Concentration and learning difficulties
  • Hormone imbalance
  • Shock
  • Stomach pain, digestive problems, acid reflux
